The affix aṇ comes after those verbs that have an indicatory ṣi and after bhid when the word to be formed is feminine.,
Thus जॄष् has an indicatory ष्, the real root being जॄः । From it we have जरा 'old age' 7.4.16; त्रपुष्--त्रपा 'bashfulness'.
So also from verbs of Bhidadi class we have भिदा 'breaking'; in the alternative we have भित्तिः । So also छिदा 'cutting'; छित्तिः 'cutting'; आरा 'a knife, an iron instrument'; आर्तिः 'distress'; धारा 'a stream'; धृतिः । The list of Bhidadi verbs will not be found given in one place in the Dhatupatha. They have been collected from different Ganas, and are the following:-
भिदा, छिदा, विदा, क्षिपा, गुहा (गिर्योषध्योः), श्रद्धा, मेधा, गोधा, आरा, हारा, कारा, क्षिया, भारा, धारा, लेखा, रेखा, चूडा, पीडा, वपा, वसा, मृजा, सृजा, कृपा, (क्रपेः सम्प्रसारणं च)॥,
