The affix aṇ comes in the sense of descendant after the word kanyā and when this affix is added, kanīna is the substitute of kanyā,
Thus कन्याया अपत्यं = कानीनः 'the son of a virgin' viz 'Karna' or 'Vyasa'. This debars the ढक् of 4.1.121. The word कन्या means a virgin, the son of a virgin is produced by immaculate conception. मुनिदेवतामाहात्म्याद् या पुंयोगेऽपि न कन्यात्वं जहाति, यथा कुन्ती, यथा सत्यवती ॥,
