The affix denoting 'fruit' is optionally elided by lup after the word jambu,
The word वा is understood here. The difference between 'luk' and 'lup' elision is that in the case of 'lup', there is concordance of gender and number. See sutra (I. 2. 5I).
Vart:- There is lup-elision of the affix denoting fruit, after the words expressing deciduous plants which wither away as soon as the fruit ripens: Thus
Vart:- Diversely so when the affix denotes flowers and roots : as, मल्लिकायां पुष्पं = मल्लिका, नवमल्लिका जातिः; so also विदार्या मूलं = विदारी ॥ In the above example there is concordance. By using 'diversely', this concordance does not sometime take place.
