The affix ṭhak comes in the sense of 'he lives thereby' after the words vetana etc. being in the Instrumental -3rd case in construction.,
Thus वेतनेन जीवति = वैतनिकः 'who lives upon wages - a menial servant'. In the case of the word धनुर्दण्ड the affix applies to the compounds, as well as to the words forming the compound. Thus धानुर्दण्डिकः, धानुष्कः, दाण्डिकः ॥
