विंशति-त्रिंशद्भ्यां ड्वुन् असञ्ज्ञायाम्

Adhyāya 5 · Pāda 1 · Rule 24

The affix ḍuvan (-\/- -aka) comes in the senses taught up to [[5.1.63]] after the words viṃśati and triṃśat , when it does not denote a Name the ti and at of the base being dropped before this affix.,

Thus विंशति + ड्वुन् = विंश + अक 6.4.142 = विंशक; त्रिंशत् + ड्वुन् = त्रिंश् + अक 6.4.143 = त्रिंशकः ॥

Why do we say असंज्ञायाम् 'when not denoting a Name'? Observe, विंशतिकः, त्रिंशत्कः formed by affix कन् 5.1.22. Q. Why do you affix कन्, when it is prohibited by the phrase अतिशदन्तायाः; for विंशति ends in ति and त्रीशत् ends in शत् ? The affix कन् will be added by dividing the sutra into two: viz: (1) विंशतित्रिंशद्भ्यां (2) ड्वुनसंज्ञायाम्; the meanings being (1) The affix 'Kan' is added to vinsati and trinsat; (2) The affix dvun is added to the same words, when not denoting a name.,
