In a bahuvrīhi samāsa ending in antara the acute accent (udātta) is on the final after a word which denotes 'that which lies between'.,
Thus वस्त्रान्तर꣡म् 'through an intervened cloth or drapery', पटान्तर꣡म्, कम्बलान्तर꣡म् = वस्त्रमन्तरं व्यवधायकं यस्य &c. Why do we say 'when meaning lying between'? Observe आत्मान्तरम् = आत्मा स्वभावोऽन्तरोऽन्योयस्य ॥,
