The words katara and katama when as first member of a compound optionally retain their original accent in a karmadhāraya samāsa,
Thus कतर꣡कठः or कतरकठः꣡, कतम꣡कठः or कतमकठः꣡ ॥ The word Karmadharaya is used for the sake of the next sutra, this sutra could have done without it, as 'katara' and 'katama' by the maxim of pratipadokta, form only Karmadharaya compound by (II. I. 63).,
