The word kroṣṭu 'a jackal' is treated in the strong cases (with the exception of Vocative Case singular) as if it ended in tṛc (tṛ).,

The word क्रोष्टु is declined like क्रोष्ट in the strong cases. As क्रोष्टा꣡, क्रोष्टा꣡रौ, क्रोष्टा꣡रः, क्रोष्टा꣡रम्, क्रोष्टा꣡रौ ॥ But क्रो꣡ष्टून् in weak cases, and हे क्रो꣡ष्ठो in the Vocative Singular. The accent in the strong cases is also that of the तृच् affix, i.e. acute on the final. The word क्रोष्टु is formed by the affix तुन् (Unadi सितनिगमि &c, 1. 69).,
