4 Removing. N. B. pātanaṃ may have different meanings according to the noun with which it is used; e. g. daḍasya pātanaṃ ‘causing the rod to fall’, i. e. chastising; garbhasya pātanaṃ ‘causing the fœtus to fall’, causing an abor- tion.
