भृञो ऽसञ्ज्ञायाम्

Adhyāya 3 · Pāda 1 · Rule 112

The affix kyap is used after the root bhṛñ 'to bear' when not used as a name.,

Thus भृ + क्यप् = भृत्य Pl. भृत्याः 'those who ought to be supported' i. e. 'servants'. Why do we say 'when not used as an appellative'? Observe क्षृ + ण्यत् = क्षार्थः 'a Kshatriya'.

Vart:- The use of kyap is optional when this verb takes the preposition सम्. Thus सम्भृत्याः or सम्भार्याः.,
