When an adhyāya or anuvāka is to be expressed there is luk elision of the affix cha (īya) having the sense of matup -- tadasyāstyasminniti matup [[5.2.94]].,
This sutra indicates by implication (ज्ञापकः), that the affix छ comes after a nominal stem, to denote an Adhyaya or an Anuvaka. According to Patanjali the elision is optional. Thus गर्दभाण्ड शब्दोऽस्मिन्नस्ति = गर्दभाण्डोऽध्यायः, अनुवाको वा ॥ In the alternative, गर्दभाण्डीयः; so also दीर्घजीवितः or दीर्घजीवतीयः, पलितस्तम्भः or पलितस्तम्भीयः ॥,
