To the word khārī , at the end of a dvigu samāsa (Numeral Determinative Compound) and to the same, when preceded by the word ardha in a tat-puruṣa samāsa the affix ṭac is added, according to the opinion of the Eastern Grammarians.,
The words द्विगोः and अर्द्धात् are both understood here. Thus द्वे खार्यौ समाहृते = द्विखारम् or द्विखारि ॥ So also अर्धं खार्या = अर्धखारम् or अर्धखारी ॥ According to Padamanjari this sutra could be dispensed with: as खार is synonymous with, खारी, as द्विखारं, त्रिखारं ॥ And it will be govered by the Vartika ठन्येभ्योऽपि दृश्यते खार शताद्यर्थम् under 5.1.57 and 5.1.58, in Mahabhashya.,
