Bernd Heinrich

A naturalist-scientist who lives in a self-cultivated forest and finds philosophical principle in ravens and bees - Heinrich bridges the split between scientific observation and the kind of meaning-making that Hindu tradition never had to artificially construct.

Bernd Heinrich is in the long list of the followers of Thoreau for whom Nature is the ultimate cause and goal of everything. He lives in a forest cultivated by himself and writes on the lives of animals and plants, drawing great principles and ideas from the natural world which are also applicable to human society. His insights into the phenomenon of death in the natural world are reminiscent of the contemplations of death in traditional societies like India, Tibet etc. And they talk about some universal principles which are relevant in greater social context.
